FOREWORD
Islam is not the only religion prescribed to Prophet Muhammad, may the blessings and peace of Allah be upon him, but it was a religion prescribed to all previous prophets and messengers, including Jesus, Moses, Abraham and Noah, peace be upon them all. Allah the Exalted, the Supreme, said in the Holy Qur’aan:
“Verily, we have sent the revelation to you ( O Muhammad) as we sent the revelation to Nuh (Noah) and the prophets after him; We (also) sent the revelation to Ibrahim (Abraham), Ismail (Ishmael), Ishaaq (Isaac), Ya’qub (Jacob), and Al-Asbaat (the offspring of the twelve sons of Ya’qub), ‘Isa (Jesus), Ayyub (Job), Yunus (Jonah), Harun (Aaron), and Sulaiman (Solomon); and to Dawud (David) we gave the Zabur (Psalms)”
“He (Allah) has ordained for you the same religion which He ordained for Nuh (Noah) and that which we have revealed to You (O Muhammead), and that which we ordained for Ibrahim (Abraham), Musa (Moses) and ‘Isa (Jesus) saying you should establish religion and make no divisions in it ”
People used to change the teachings of a Prophet that was sent down to them after his death. That is why the need arose for a new one until the final prophet came. The last Prophet (saw) taught us original messages of all the previous prophets as a renewer and confirmer. In fact, all these prophets were Muslims in the sense of submitting themselves to the will of Allah, their Creator and called their nations to the same message: There is no god but Allah, the Lord of all worlds. Associate nothing with Him and obey Him. Believe in the Day of Resurrection on which you will be brought back to him and Allah (swt) will reckon you about all what you have done in this world. Prepare yourselves for that Day, believing in the final prophet, doing noble deeds and avoiding evil. The result at the end of your life which waits for you will be either Jannah which has such blessings and beauties that no eye has seen, no ear has heard and no mind can imagine, or Jahannam which is extremely terrible, that no one can bear.
The word Mu'min, is one who believes in what the Prophet Muhammad (saw.) brought from his lord in Arabic it means one who gives security and peace to others from his/her tongue and hand. Thus, the Shariah (Islamic Law System) which the Prophet Mohammed brought consists of such security, peace, wisdom, knowledge and virtue that all people of the world, irrespective of their nation, colour and language are in need of, in every aspect of their life.
What kind of society does Islam want to establish on the face of the earth? Which values does Islam call the nations of the world? Or what are the basic qualities of an Islamic society? As if the last prophet Muhammad (saw.) has replied all these questions in the following Hadith:
Abu Hurairah (r) reported: The Prophet (saw.) said: “A man bought a piece of land from another man, and the buyer found a jar filled with gold in the land. The buyer (came and) said to the seller:
- Take your gold, as I bought only the land from you and not the gold!
The owner of the land said:
- I sold you the land with everything in it . (He refused to take the gold; this is because he thinks that he has no right to take it. So is the buyer)
So both of them took their case before a third man who asked:
One of them said:
The other said:
The man said:
- Marry the girl to the boy and spend the money on them, and whatever remains give it in charity!..
Here is the society Islam targets to bring up its individuals at every age, in every place!.. Respecting human rights, preferring others to oneself and a religion based on the justice, wisdom and love…
When I was teaching Islamic Studies at a private Islamic college in the city of Melbourne, Australia, I used to explain one Hadith of the prophet Muhammad (saw) to the students after every Zuhr prayer at the mosque. The words of the Prophet (saw) about different steps of life had such spirituality that had left a great impact on the hearts of the audience. Many students and even teachers came to me and asked from me to write those words for them. Therefore, I searched for these words of the Prophet (saw.) giving references, explained it in much more detail, collected them according to their topics in one place and published a book named:
“LIFE UNDER THE DIVINE LIGHT”
Without a doubt, the beautiful words of Rasulullah (SA) are like the rain that revives the dry, dead land… It is filled with invigorating messages that illuminate the ages… It is the rain water that replenishes the thirsty saplings of our soul… It is the sacred lamp that lights up every aspect of our lives!
Furthermore, to listen to the world's most beautiful human being… to read Hadith, to remember the beloved of Allah, to cast your mind back to the time when the Messenger of Allah (SA) walked on this earth… This, undoubtedly, will place such happiness, peace and tranquillity into our hearts…
The purpose of life for all people of the world, irrespective of their nation, language and colour, should be to know very well the One who created them, to obey Him who organizes everything in the universe, who gives all that is on the earth, all that is in the heavens and all that is between them to the service of humankind!.. Thus, in the first Hadith I tried to explain more about the attributes of Allah, the Lord of the worlds, which is based on the Qur'an and the Sunnah. That is consisting of the first part of Islamic concept (Aqidah) which is called Uluhiyyah (all about the Creator).
In the second Hadith it was stressed on the mission of final Prophet Mohammad (sav), and the values which he contributed to humanity, the criteria that elevate people up to the height of the highest, and the qualities that Muslims earned by following the path of last Prophet.
Once one has entered the path of the Prophet (peace be upon him) the first thing one must do is to purify oneself of bad intentions and to clear ones heart of any ill feelings (refer to the 3 rd Hadith). After this, one must repent to Allah (SWT) all their sins and faults (refer to the 4 th Hadith). Once a person has purified the inner depths of their body – their spiritual self - a person then must understand the importance of ablution and keeping their physical bodies clean (refer to the 5 th Hadith). This is followed by offering Salaat properly with all of its stipulations (refer to the 7 th Hadith), offering Zakaat (refer to the 8 th Hadith), fasting during the month of Ramadan (refer to the 9 th Hadith) and finally one’s pilgrimage to Hajj (refer to the 10 th Hadith).
There are also other topics which take us up to the 40 th Hadith, these topics are concerned with the decisions we must fulfill within our daily lives. In sequential order these are, patience towards adversity (Sabr), the merit of reciting the Holy Quran, gaining knowledge, supplications, kind treatment of our parents, good manners ( Akhlak), Dhikr (remembrance of Allah Swt), human rights, commanding good and forbidding evil, the etiquettes of speaking, having faith and trust in Allah (SWT) alone (Tawakkul), brotherhood/sisterhood in Islam, greetings and love, the meaning of sleeping and waking up, getting too attached to this world, the meaning of life, not harming people, guiding people to right and wrong, martyrdom, smiling, the end of life, major sins in Islam, hypocrisy, Adhaan, the last day, Dajjal, the trumpet, the day of resurrection and finally Jannah and Jahannam.
The last Hadith of this book is reserved to Jannah and its wonderful bounties, so that our final destination in life shall be Jannah, inshaallah. So that once we have resurrected on the Day of Judgment we can reach the unparalleled beauties of jannah without entering the sweltering fire of Jahannam. We pray for His forgiveness, mercy and compassion, and with Him is our full trust.
As a result a book which encapsulates various topics from Dhikr, human rights, Salah, the day of judgment, supplications, death, leadership, the hereafter to almost every aspect of our daily lives came into being. Perfection is only a trait of Allah, so I cannot say that this book is perfect, therefore I do hope that you forgive any errors or mistakes that you come across, please try to notify myself of these errors, as it will be greatly appreciated.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank many people who had any input into the formation of this book, especially those who helped with the English. A special thanks to my colleagues at Ilim College – Aynur Simsirel, Hakan Oser, Hatice Koc, Fahri Balci, Aynur Balci and 'Abdulazim (English teacher at Daru'l-Ulum College). Whosoever provides to be a catalyst in the process of a good deed, will reap the same rewards of the person who is performing the deed itself.
My only request from those who read even a single Hadith and benefit from it is that they pray for the forgiveness of this humble servant’s sins. On that day where only a pure heart will be of benefit to us, I pray that the Lord of the Worlds can shower us with His infinite mercy…
